About

I’m a British photographer, currently based in Salisbury, with over 15 years’ experience shooting a diverse range of subjects.

Starting out in the pre-digital era as an assistant to David Montgomery, I learnt to judge flash and natural lighting by eye, with the odd Polaroid test to confirm. The discipline of noticing and shaping light has stuck with me and grown into an obsession in the pursuit of striking images.

Photography is a powerful mode of communication and there’s an inherent responsibility to consider the end use. Whether it’s telling the story of an event, creating a mood that reflects a product’s values, or something as practical as leaving space for copy, I’m always attentive to a client’s needs, and I enjoy discovering new solutions to create imagery that communicates these successfully.

Together with David Montgomery and, later, Gareth McConnell, I helped establish and run the first Guardian Photography Masterclass, and I continue to run small workshops from time to time. I’ve also co-established a small black and white darkroom in Salisbury: if you’re nearby and interested in getting involved, drop me a line.

I’ve been very lucky to shoot a wide range of projects, from celebrity weddings to Remembrance Day veterans, and from high-end properties to up-and-coming shoe brands. I remain keen for new challenges in new places with new people. Please get in touch if you have a project in mind, or you just want to know more about what I can do.
